The Congo Homework

1. What events led to the outbreak of war in the DR Congo?

The events that led to this was the genocide was so big that it moved over to the Congo from Rwanda. Because Rwanda is the next country to the Congo it was very easy that the war that was in Rwanda could find its way to Congo, which it did. That is how the genocide found its way over to the Congo.

2. How many have died in this war? Over what time frame has the deaths taken place? What countries and ethnic groups are involved?

In the last 10 years of fighting, more than 5 million people have died in the Congolese conflict—mostly civilians who haven't had access to enough food or health care because of the fighting. Because there was not enough food or health care that is another reason why people are dead. The time frame of this genocide was around 1994 the same time of the Rwanda genocide, the death takes place in the Congo. The ethnic group were the Congo Hutu and Kivutians and Rwanda Tutsi.

3. What do you think can happen to stop the war/genocide in Congo?

I believe that there was no way to find out how to come up with a solution for this because if they would have stopped when they found out that the Rwanda genocide moved over to the Congo and that in Congo there over 5 million people dead and counting. There are hundreds of thousands of people in North Congo right now who are starving, hiding in the forest, and living in ditches in unimaginable terror that they might be killed. If they wanted to stop they would have already stopped.
